Phil is told, "We are your own people; we are all you have, Phil!" Another scene is set in the rococo dining-room of a popular French restaurant. One speaker recalls saying to Gladys, "if you'll give up the whole blooming heiress business and come with me, I'll make you the happiest girl in Manhattan."
