Uncle Sam's Boys with Pershing's Troops, or Dick Prescott at Grips with the Boche, is by H. Irving Hancock. The contents list gives chapter titles such as, among others, Dick at Training Camp, At Grips with German Spies, On Board the Troopship and The Thrill of the Fire Trench. The text explains that Non-com is the Army abbreviation for non-commissioned officers, and that K.O. is Army slang for commanding officer. Dick and Greg hang up their campaign hats in a plain room, seven and a half feet wide and ten feet in length, with walls, ceiling and floor of pine boards.
Holmes declares that they are in the midst of a pack of the sea wolves, who are doing their best to hit them with torpedoes. Under the heading Chapter XII, The Best of Details, a destroyer lets go a depth charge, which explodes under water and throws up a geyser. Dick bends over, seizes Papa Prim's hand and says earnestly "Good-bye for a little while, monsieur", adding that they go away with hearts full of gratitude.
