About this book

Above the winter woods, Uncle Wiggily pilots an airship made from a clothes basket and toy balloons. He has gone shopping for Nurse Jane, the muskrat who keeps house with him, when Mother Goose brings news that their bungalow has burned down. With Nurse Jane safe, the old rabbit must find somewhere to stay, and Mother Goose suggests homes belonging to nursery rhyme characters.

Howard Roger Garis mixes animal stories with familiar rhymes, allowing their characters to stray beyond the printed page. Simple Simon appears after his picture falls out of a book, hungry and unable to carry water in a sieve. Uncle Wiggily shares jam tarts and devises a solution using leaves from a rubber plant. Such playful inventions sit beside an emphasis on helping others. Readers can enjoy the woodland community, the absurd contraptions and the small problems that give the rabbit opportunities to be kind.
