About this book

Barry Friedman argues that policing should be governed through public rules and democratic participation. Connecting street encounters with government surveillance, he questions reliance on courts to protect civil liberties after problems occur. His account uses individual experiences and constitutional analysis to examine how communities might gain a greater role in setting police practices.
