About this book
Vitus Bering: The Discoverer of Bering Strait is a book by Peter Lauridsen. The contents list names Part I, Bering's First Expedition, among others. The text says that Mr. Lauridsen's book is essentially a defense of Vitus Bering, written especially for the student of history and historical geography. The text says that it is due to German writers that Bering's name has been burdened with a superfluous letter.
The text quotes a passage saying that in the spring of 1742 Chelyuskin crowned his work by sailing from the Khatanga River around the eastern Taimyr peninsula and also around the most northerly point of Asia. The reference notes quote Cook and King on a group of islands consisting of the Three Sisters, Kunashir and Zellany.
