About this book

Voyager Encounters Jupiter is credited to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration of the United States. The contents list names, among others, Images of Jupiter and Its Satellites, The Voyager Mission and Scientific Highlights. The introduction says that in March 1979 Voyager 1 swept past Jupiter, photographing both the giant planet and five of its moons, and that four months later a companion spacecraft, Voyager 2, made a similar encounter.

The introduction says preliminary results of the Voyager encounters with Jupiter are presented in the booklet. A passage says Europa's surface is probably a thin ice crust overlying water or softer ice (slush) about 100 kilometers (60 miles) thick that covers a silicate interior. The text says it appears that Io is a source of the sulfur and oxygen ions which fill the magnetosphere.
