About this book

Wanda Fraiken Neff's We Sing Diana follows Nora Deming, who the summary at the front says grew up in a quiet country town. Petersfield, a women's college, New York and London are named as places where she meets women leading half-lives. The text says she finds men freer than women, asks what women want, and describes her search for fulfilment in career, friends and love.

In the sampled pages Nora is at college. A girl named Cabell goes out at night by the fire-escape and is sent home to Georgia. Eleanor and Fuzzy coach Nora at tennis, and she tries basket-ball, skating and skiing without distinction. Gwendolen Morris writes exotic verse for the college paper. In another passage Nora and Helen look for Zoe in New York, who has borrowed money from everyone she knew.
