About this book
Wood-working for Beginners, subtitled A Manual for Amateurs, sets out to suggest things that amateurs of all ages can profitably make from wood and help them work successfully. The preface hopes that woodworking may give boys pleasant and useful ways to expend surplus energy and contribute to their harmonious all-round development. The discussion of equipment calls an adjustable iron mitre-box a valuable addition to the tool list, and says a grindstone remains useful even when most grinding is done elsewhere.
The instructions require a few days of drying before a careful inspection of the interior for holes or defects to be stopped. The boat instructions describe stretching wooden strips along the middle of the deck from the coaming of the well towards the stem-and stern-posts.
