About this book
Young Glory and the Spanish cruiser is by Walter Fenton Mott. The heading reads Patriotic War Stories, issued semi-monthly, and offers A Brave Fight Against Odds as an alternative title. The contents list gives chapter headings that mention, among others, Shooting a Prisoner of War, Flying for Their Lives and At Valmosa.
A Spanish officer is told that he has a prisoner here, an American sailor, and that the sailor is his prisoner no longer. An order is given to put a bullet into this impudent rascal, and the rifles go to the soldiers' shoulders, but the stranger grasps the Spanish officer and draws him towards himself. Dan says that one American equals ten Spaniards, so that eight guns equal eighty. Dan Daly laughs about a thousand dollars and launches a terrific blow at the Spaniard nearest to him.
