The preface describes following the original text in the main, making minor changes and additions to bring topics up to date, and adding a chapter on moral and religious education.
The discussion of movement assigns stress upon basal movements a higher therapeutic value against disorders of the accessory system and says such stress directly develops poise, control, and psycho-physical equilibrium. The discussion of mental productivity associates a just preponderance of will with distrust of shortcuts and trust chiefly in honest, sustained work.
