Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind is a collection of informal talks by Shunryu Suzuki, the Sōtō Zen teacher who founded the San Francisco Zen Center and Tassajara, the first Zen Buddhist monastery outside Asia. It was first published in 1970 and has become one of the most widely read English-language books about Zen.
The talks are short and plain. They deal with posture and breathing in meditation, with the right attitude to practice, and above all with beginner's mind, the open and unprejudiced way of seeing that Suzuki says experts tend to lose. Suzuki died in 1971.
