BOOK EXCERPT

Khowabnama is Akhteruzzaman Elias’s second and final novel, considered along with Chilekothar Sepai one of the great novels of Bangladeshi literature. The book is set in a village in northern Bengal across the years of Partition and after, and it interweaves dream, history, folk belief, and the slow violence of land politics.

It is not an easy book. But for serious readers of modern Bengali fiction, it is essential.
