Abby Jimenez started Nadia Cakes in her home kitchen in 2007, after losing a retail management job, opened a shop in Palmdale, California in 2009, expanded into Maple Grove and Woodbury, Minnesota, and won Food Network's Cupcake Wars in 2013. Her fiction began in 2019 with The Friend Zone, followed by The Happy Ever After Playlist and Life's Too Short, which took the 2022 Minnesota Book Award. Part of Your World and Yours Truly centre on emergency room doctors and the small Minnesota town of Wakan. Jimenez writes comedy around blunt medical detail, partly because she has lived it: she has spoken publicly about chronic kidney disease brought on by Sjögren's disease and about cancer treatment in 2023. Her books have passed 1.5 million copies and appear in 28 languages. She lives near Minneapolis with her husband Carlos and their three daughters.
