Adam Shaughnessy

Adam Shaughnessy combines mythology, riddles, and detective play in middle-grade fiction. The Entirely True Story of the Unbelievable FIB was his first novel, published by Algonquin Young Readers in 2015. It introduces Prudence Potts and ABE, two young investigators drawn into a mystery involving Norse myth, magical beings, and the Eye of Odin. Hachette's reader guide places the book at ages eight to twelve and describes its combination of fantasy, adventure, and personal loss. Shaughnessy has explained that years of running story-based enrichment programs in schools helped shape his interest in mythologies beyond the familiar Greek and Roman traditions. The novel began a series continued by The Unbelievable FIB 2, giving its puzzles and mythic world a larger narrative frame. His work joins classroom experience with an energetic mystery form, asking young readers to notice language carefully, question appearances, and solve problems beside characters who are learning to trust their own judgment.
