Diane Stanley
Diane Stanley is an author and illustrator whose work for young audiences ranges from picture-book biographies to comic mysteries. The Mysterious Case of the Allbright Academy sends Franny Sharp and her friends to an elite boarding school where flawless behavior and achievement seem too uniform to be natural. HarperCollins brought out the story in 2008, and it reunites characters from The Mysterious Matter of I.M. Fine. Stanley builds the puzzle through Franny’s observations, balancing an eerie school secret with humor and questions about conformity. She trained as a medical illustrator and later worked in graphic design and children’s publishing before concentrating on her own books. That visual background also informs her noted biographies of historical figures, a body of work recognized by the Washington Post Children’s Book Guild Award for Nonfiction.
