Aimee Wall

Aimee Wall works across fiction, essays, and literary translation from her base in Montreal. Born in Newfoundland, she has brought French-language writing by Vickie Gendreau, Jean-Philippe Baril Guérard, Clara Dupuis-Morency, and other Quebec authors into English. Wall’s debut novel, We, Jane, was published by Book*hug Press in 2021. It follows Marthe from Montreal back to rural Newfoundland, where an intergenerational circle of women preserves knowledge connected to underground abortion care. Through that group, the novel considers bodily autonomy, friendship, secrecy, rural access, and the complicated meaning of returning home. We, Jane was longlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize and shortlisted for several honors, including the Amazon Canada First Novel Award and the BMO Winterset Award. Wall’s work as both novelist and translator is linked by close attention to voice, place, and the forms of care that language can preserve across communities.
