Amelia Pang
In 2012 an Oregon woman unpacking Halloween decorations found a letter folded inside, written by a man held in a Chinese labour camp who had made them. Pang spent years tracing it: who wrote it, what Masanjia was, and how goods made under detention reach American shelves through supply chains that auditors are paid not to examine too closely. Made in China is the result, and it is as much about the auditing industry and Western procurement as about the camp itself. Pang is an American journalist of Chinese and Uyghur descent who reported for the Epoch Times, and she keeps the argument on documented supply chains rather than on assertion.
