Amor Towles
1964
For twenty-one years Amor Towles held a day job at a single Manhattan investment firm, Select Equity Group, and only wrote full time from 2012, after his first novel had already sold. That novel, Rules of Civility, tracks a young typist named Katey Kontent through New York society in 1938. The Lincoln Highway, published in 2021, sets three young men and a Studebaker on a plan to drive west in June 1954 and then sends them east instead. You Have Arrived at Your Destination is far shorter, a novelette written for Blake Crouch's Forward series in 2019, in which a father sits in a fertility laboratory being offered a menu of futures for a child not yet born. Towles was born in Boston in 1964 and studied English at Yale and Stanford.
