Amy Meredith introduced the Dark Touch sequence with a supernatural school story set in the California town of Deepdene. Shadows follows fifteen-year-old Eve Evergold, whose ordinary social life changes when she discovers a power connected to a demonic threat close to home. Her friends Jess and Luke become part of the mystery as Eve learns that attraction, suspicion, and danger can point toward the same person. Red Fox first issued the book in 2010, and a later paperback appeared in 2017 under the expanded series title Dark Touch: Shadows. Meredith uses the first volume to establish Eve’s abilities, the town’s hidden conflict, and the mixture of friendship and paranormal suspense that continues through later Dark Touch books. Shadows is aimed at teen readers and functions as a series opening, not a self-contained supernatural tale. Its central tension comes from Eve needing to interpret people she already knows while discovering rules that no ordinary school experience has prepared her to understand.
