Millionaire Teacher: The Nine Rules of Wealth You Should Have Learned in School, published by Wiley in 2011 and revised in 2017, argues for buying low cost index funds, holding them, and ignoring almost everything the investment industry sells. Hallam's standing rests on no financial licence at all. He is a Canadian former schoolteacher, first in Comox, British Columbia and later teaching English and personal finance at Singapore American School, who built a portfolio worth a million dollars on that salary by his late thirties. He holds no professional qualification in finance and does not manage money for clients, and he earns from the books and from paid talks given across some thirty countries. His case runs directly against commission-paid advisers, which is a position with its own commercial upside. Two later titles, The Global Expatriate's Guide to Investing and Millionaire Expat, apply the same rules to people living outside their home country.
