Hell Followed With Us opens on Benji, a trans sixteen-year-old fleeing the fundamentalist group that engineered the plague now emptying the world, and carrying its living weapon inside his own body. Andrew Joseph White published it with Peachtree Teen in 2022 as his first novel; it entered the American young adult bestseller list at number ten and was a finalist for the William C. Morris Award for a debut. He grew up in the Shenandoah Valley, left Handley High School in Winchester, Virginia, in 2016, and finished an MFA in creative writing at George Mason University in 2022. A bisexual trans man, and autistic, he dates his habit of writing queer characters to the age of twelve. The Spirit Bares Its Teeth (2023) took a Stonewall Honor, Compound Fracture (2024) a Printz Honor, and You Weren't Meant to Be Human (2025) is his first book for adults. Film rights sold in 2024 for an animated version co-produced by Lilly Wachowski. He lives in Virginia.
