Andrew Levkoff approaches the late Roman Republic through people living close to power without controlling it. The Other Alexander opens The Bow of Heaven trilogy and is narrated by Alexandros, an educated Greek enslaved in 86 BCE and given to the wealthy Roman Marcus Licinius Crassus. Intrigue inside the household presents Alexandros with a problem he may be able to solve, although speaking openly could place him in greater danger. Peacock Angel Publishing issued the historical novel in 2011 as the trilogy's opening volume. Alexandros's Greek identity and enslaved position establish a viewpoint sharply different from that of the Roman statesmen around him. Later volumes continue the trilogy through Mixture of Madness and Blood of Eagles. The Other Alexander introduces Andrew Levkoff's interest in wit, loyalty, and survival under unequal power, using Alexandros's sharp observations to make elite Roman ambition visible from the household level rather than from the viewpoint of celebrated statesmen.
