Isaac Marion installed heating, guarded buildings and supervised family visits for children in foster care while he wrote. Three self-published novels preceded his breakthrough, and then Atria took Warm Bodies, his love story narrated by a walking corpse called R, and published it in 2010. It reached number five on the American bestseller lists, appeared in 27 languages and was filmed in 2013 by Jonathan Levine. The Burning World, published in 2017, is the first full-length sequel, carrying R and Julie across a ruined continent. Boarded Window is a far smaller thing: a short story he wrote for the Seattle magazine City Arts in 2011 about R's first winter as a walking corpse. The Living, which Marion put out himself in 2018 after his publisher passed on it, closes the sequence. Born near Seattle in 1981, he also paints, photographs and makes music, including a solo album he treats as a companion to Warm Bodies.
