Andrew Ridgeley

1963

Andrew Ridgeley is an English musician and memoirist best known as one half of Wham!, the pop duo he formed with his school friend George Michael. Wham! George & Me recounts their friendship from Bushey Meads School through songwriting, touring, chart success, and the group’s farewell. Penguin Michael Joseph first published the memoir in 2019, with Ridgeley providing an insider’s account of how two teenagers developed a shared musical ambition and then adjusted as Michael became the principal songwriter. The book also revisits Wham!’s visual style, performances, and reach, including the duo’s place in 1980s British pop. Edition records vary slightly in punctuation and in whether Michael’s surname appears in the title, but Ridgeley’s authorship and memoir role are consistent. His perspective is distinct from a conventional band history because the central relationship predates Wham! and remains the narrative thread after the group’s career ends. Ridgeley later supported charitable projects, while the memoir returned him publicly to the music history he helped create.
