Elton John

Me is unsparing about the years Elton John lost: sixteen of them to addiction and bulimia, a marriage to a woman while he was gay and everybody knew it, and the 1990 rehab admission he credits with saving him. He has stayed clean ever since. Underneath the wreckage the book is really about a working partnership with Bernie Taupin that has lasted more than fifty years. The AIDS foundation he started in 1992 has raised hundreds of millions. He is candid about having been difficult to be around, which is what keeps the memoir from reading as public relations.
