Born in New York City on 19 February 1977, he was filing for the Times while still an undergraduate at Cornell and has stayed there as a business writer and columnist ever since. Too Big to Fail (Viking, 2009) reconstructs the months around the collapse of Lehman Brothers in 2008 hour by hour, built from what the bank chief executives, Treasury officials and Federal Reserve staff in those rooms told him. It topped bestseller lists and became an HBO film in 2011, which Sorkin co-produced and which drew eleven Emmy nominations. He co-anchors CNBC's Squawk Box, co-created the Showtime drama Billions, and has taken a Gerald Loeb Award for his reporting.
