Thomas L. Friedman wrote The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century under his full byline. The shortened form Thomas Friedman refers to the same reporter, whose other books include Longitudes and Attitudes. Friedman has written the foreign affairs column for The New York Times since 1995, following assignments as a financial reporter, Beirut bureau chief, Jerusalem bureau chief and chief diplomatic correspondent. He received Pulitzer Prizes for international reporting in 1983 and 1988, then a third for commentary in 2002. Published in 2005, The World Is Flat examines technological and economic changes associated with globalization. It reached number one on the newspaper’s bestseller list and received the inaugural Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award.
