Andrew Shaffer

An Iowa native who trained in comedy writing at Second City in Chicago, Andrew Shaffer has put out more than twenty books of parody, mystery and horror, and now lives in Louisville, Kentucky. His commercial breakthrough was Hope Never Dies (2018), which narrates an amateur investigation in Joe Biden's voice with Barack Obama as his reluctant partner; Hope Rides Again carried the pair to Chicago in 2019. Feel the Bern: A Bernie Sanders Mystery hands the same joke to the Vermont senator and a Gen Z intern named Crash Robertson, runs the plot through the maple syrup trade, and prints recipes at the back. Secret Santa, from Quirk in 2020, drops politics for horror comedy: a struggling publishing house in 1986, an office gift exchange, and an editor left holding a very unpleasant doll.
