Andrew Varga

Andrew Varga writes historical fantasy that sends present-day characters into carefully researched turning points. The Last Saxon King, published by Imbrifex Books in 2023, opens his Jump in Time series. Sixteen-year-old Dan Renfrew discovers that his family belongs to a line of time jumpers after an attack forces him into England in 1066. There he meets Sam, another traveler from the modern world, and becomes involved in events surrounding King Harold II and the Norman Conquest. Varga developed the series from his interest in history and from conversations with his children about the books they enjoyed. He has emphasized historical accuracy while keeping the narrative accessible to teen readers. The Last Saxon King therefore works as both an adventure and the foundation for later installments, which carry Dan into other periods. Its Old English guide and classroom materials extend the novel's attention to language, material culture, and the practical differences between medieval and modern life.
