Ann Dávila Cardinal
Dávila Cardinal came to writing in her forties and sets her horror in Puerto Rico. Five Midnights uses el cuco, the folkloric child-taker, on a series of killings in San Juan; Category Five follows the same characters after a hurricane. Breakup from Hell is lighter, with a girl discovering the boy she likes is not from around here in a fairly literal sense. She has written about being a Nuyorican who moved to Vermont and the language she had to go back for, and works in college admissions alongside the fiction.
