Ann Kullberg

Ann Kullberg taught herself colored pencil from a library copy of Bet Borgeson's The Colored Pencil, bought a set of twenty-four Prismacolors, and won first place at a county fair with her first attempt in the medium. Portrait commissions followed, then an invitation through the Colored Pencil Society of America to write Colored Pencil Portraits Step by Step for North Light in 1999. Reader letters about that book pushed her the same year into publishing a subscription magazine, launched as From My Perspective and later renamed COLOR. Colored Pencil Secrets for Success, from 2009, carries the magazine's method into a book: finished work by a spread of artists, each piece critiqued on what succeeds, what fails, and what the artist should do differently next time. She runs her studio, workshops and publishing operation near Seattle.
