Author: Anne Warner
Anne Warner (1869-1913), born Anne Richmond Warner in St. Paul, Minnesota, was one of the most popular American humorists of the early twentieth century. She made her name with the Susan Clegg stories, beginning in 1904, which turned a sharp-tongued small-town spinster and her quiet neighbor into a running study of marriage, independence, and village gossip. Her novel The Rejuvenation of Aunt Mary (1905) was adapted into a Broadway comedy that ran in New York in 1907. She spent her later years in England, where she died in 1913, and a final Susan Clegg book, Susan Clegg and Her Love Affairs, was published posthumously in 1916.
