Author: Anthony Doerr

Ten years of work went into All the Light We Cannot See, winner of the 2015 Pulitzer for fiction. It braids two children through the war: Marie-Laure, blind, who leaves German-occupied Paris for the walled port of Saint-Malo carrying a museum diamond, and Werner, a German orphan whose gift for radios pulls him into the army. Netflix filmed it in 2023 as a four-part series written by Steven Knight and directed by Shawn Levy. Anthony Doerr was born in Cleveland in 1973, read history at Bowdoin College and took an MFA at Bowling Green State University. His first novel, About Grace, appeared in 2004: David Winkler, a hydrologist in Anchorage, dreams things that later happen, and after dreaming that he fails to save his daughter from a flood he leaves his family and spends twenty-five years in the Caribbean. He lives in Boise, Idaho.
