B.J. Hoff

B.J. Hoff writes faith-centered historical fiction in which music, migration, work, and community shape long-running character stories. Prelude opens her American Anthem trilogy in nineteenth-century New York, bringing together an Irish immigrant family, a blind musician, a governess, and two physicians. The sequence continues through Cadence and Jubilee, and Hoff later gathered all three novels into the single-volume American Anthem. Harp on the Willow is the first publisher-listed entry in the Mt. Laurel Memories series, a 2018 Harvest House novel set in West Virginia in 1869 around physician Daniel Kavanagh, schoolteacher Serena Norman, and Addie Rose from a nearby coal community. Hoff's bibliography also includes the Song of Erin, Emerald Ballad, Riverhaven Years, and Mountain Song Legacy series. Across that body of work, recurring Irish and Appalachian settings allow her to explore faith through families and neighborhoods rather than abstract argument. Prelude and Harp on the Willow offer complementary examples of that method without forming one series.
