Barry Green

Green is a double bassist who played in symphony orchestras for years and noticed that the interference between a musician and the music was the same one Timothy Gallwey had described in tennis. The Inner Game of Music, written with Gallwey, applies it: the argument that performance improves when the judging voice is quieted rather than when effort is increased, with exercises for awareness, trust and letting go. It has been in print since 1986 and is handed to nervous performers by teachers who have nothing else to offer them.
