The surname is withheld deliberately. Drop the Rock comes out of Alcoholics Anonymous, whose tradition asks members to stay anonymous at the level of press and print, so the authors appear as a first name and an initial. The book concentrates on steps six and seven, the ones about character defects, which the fellowship's own literature covers in a few paragraphs and which people in recovery tend to get stuck on for years. It is the work of a movement rather than of an individual, and the anonymity is a principle rather than a marketing decision.
