The novel was translated into English by Lytton Smith and published by Open Letter Books, bringing Ólafsson's comic treatment of literary culture to a wider readership. Before establishing himself as a writer, Ólafsson played bass with the Icelandic band the Sugarcubes, and his later work has ranged across poetry, theatre, and prose.
