Brigit Strawbridge Howard

Brigit Strawbridge Howard is a naturalist, wildlife gardener, and advocate for pollinating insects. Dancing with Bees grew from her decision to pay closer attention to the species and habitats around her. Chelsea Green published the nature memoir in 2019. It moves among observation, natural history, and practical questions about supporting honeybees, bumblebees, solitary bees, and the plants on which they depend. Howard writes about classification and behavior without separating scientific detail from the experience of watching a garden or walking through a landscape. Publisher biographies also describe her work as a speaker and campaigner for native wild bees and other pollinators. The 2020 Wainwright Prize judges included the book on their shortlist. It belongs to a form of nature writing in which personal rediscovery becomes a route into ecology. Dancing with Bees asks readers to notice small creatures closely enough to understand their variety and their place within larger living systems. The publisher describes the work as a debut book and a journey filled with silver birches, wildflowers, skylarks, and varied bee species. Its practical thread asks what people can do to help pollinators while deepening their relationship with place.
