C.M. Lockhart builds epic fantasy around Black characters, divine conflict, political violence, and the difficult loyalties formed under pressure. We Are Dying Gods is the second volume in the Wrath of Gods series, continuing the narrative introduced by We Are the Origin. The novel follows assassins drawn into a struggle involving kingdoms, gods, and the consequences of power, widening the world and conflicts established in the opening book. Lockhart is also the founder of Written in Melanin, a platform devoted to books by Black authors, and hosts its associated podcast and video discussions. She edits collaborative projects, including Magic in the Melanin, and co-founded the DNF Book Club. Her work across fiction and literary community projects shares an interest in expanding the visibility of Black storytelling. We Are Dying Gods represents the high-fantasy branch of that effort, combining a large mythic framework with characters whose choices carry personal, communal, and political costs.
