C.R. Dempsey

C.R. Dempsey is an Irish historical novelist whose fiction returns to periods of political upheaval and contested loyalty. Born in Dublin and based in London, he has written the Exiles sequence as well as novels set in the Viking age. Traitor Maguire is the third Exiles novel and moves the series into Ireland during the 1590s. Its story follows Eunan and Seamus as clan rivalries, rebellion, and the pressure of English rule complicate questions of allegiance. Apple Books records a 2022 publication by CRMPD Media, while independent series listings place the novel after Bad Blood and Uprising. That sequence context matters because recurring characters carry earlier choices into a widening conflict. Dempsey uses documented historical pressures as the framework for an adventure driven by family, strategy, and divided commitments. Traitor Maguire thus extends a connected Irish narrative while remaining readable as a focused account of people navigating unstable authority and the demands of kinship.
