Cameron McNeish is a Scottish outdoor writer, broadcaster, editor, and long-distance walker whose career has documented mountains for more than four decades. There’s Always the Hills, published by Sandstone Press in 2018, is his autobiography, and actor Sam Heughan supplied the foreword. The book moves from his early life and athletics into walking, climbing, publishing, and television, while returning repeatedly to the Cairngorms and other Scottish landscapes. McNeish edited The Great Outdoors magazine, contributed a regular column to The Scots Magazine, presented outdoor programmes, and helped develop long-distance routes including the Scottish National Trail. His recollections also range beyond Scotland to journeys in the Himalayas, Syria, Jordan, and the Caucasus. That breadth makes the memoir more than a list of expeditions. It connects practical travel, public advocacy, friendships within mountaineering, and the sense of belonging that particular landscapes can create over a lifetime of repeated visits.
