Author: Carole Hooven

Hooven taught human evolutionary biology at Harvard for two decades and wrote T, arguing that testosterone explains a great deal about differences in male and female behaviour and that the science should be discussed plainly. In 2021 she said on Fox News that the biological categories male and female are useful and factual; a Harvard colleague called the remarks transphobic, a dispute followed inside the department, and Hooven gave up her teaching post in 2023, saying she had been made unwelcome. The scientific claims in the book and the campus argument about them are separate matters that have often been discussed as one.
