John Marrs
The One takes one idea, a DNA test that identifies the person you are genetically matched to, and follows five strangers through what that does to lives already underway.
Marrs keeps the chapters tiny and cuts between storylines fast, and the premise is used for horror as often as romance: matches arrive married, or imprisoned, or the wrong sex for what someone expected of themselves. Netflix adapted it. The Passengers does something similar with self-driving cars and a public vote on who dies.
