Claudia Rankine
1963
Claudia Rankine writes poetry, essays, plays, and works that combine several forms to examine public language and everyday encounters. Just Us brings essays, poems, images, conversations, and fact-checked commentary together in a book Graywolf Press describes as an invitation to discuss whiteness and the habits that sustain division. It completes a loose trilogy after Don’t Let Me Be Lonely and Citizen. Rankine has also co-edited anthologies and co-founded the Racial Imaginary Institute. Her use of documentary material beside personal observation gives readers more than one voice or interpretive frame, making the structure itself part of the inquiry.
