Dallas Willard

Willard taught philosophy at the University of Southern California for nearly fifty years and was a serious Husserl scholar who translated him, and that was only half his working life. The other half was a Christianity built around what he called spiritual formation: the argument that following Jesus is a matter of practice and habit rather than of belief alone, and that the church had reduced it to the latter. The Divine Conspiracy and Renovation of the Heart are the main ones, and they shaped a generation of American evangelical writing about discipline. He died in 2013.
