A B Simpson was a Canadian-born Presbyterian minister, author, hymn writer, and missionary organizer whose work helped shape the Christian and Missionary Alliance. Wholly Sanctified grew from sermons on holiness and the role of the Holy Spirit, first issued near the end of the nineteenth century and later republished by Moody Publishers. Its chapters move from the sanctified spirit, soul, and body to preservation and practical Christian life, giving the book a clear devotional structure. Simpson also founded New York's Gospel Tabernacle, launched the missionary magazine The Gospel in All Lands, and opened a training college for lay workers. In 1887 he organized the Christian Alliance and Evangelical Missionary Alliance, which later merged. Boston University's history of missiology describes those bodies as combining home advocacy with overseas mission work and notes that Simpson led the movement for the rest of his life. His wife Margaret served in financial and missionary appointment roles, making administration a documented part of their shared work. Simpson also wrote hymns for the movement's expanding ministry.
