Nouman Ali Khan

Founded the Bayyinah Institute to teach Quranic Arabic to English speakers who had memorised the text without understanding a word of it, which describes a very large share of Muslims outside the Arab world.

His lectures work by taking a single verse apart grammatically and showing what the word choice is doing, and they reached an enormous online audience through the 2010s.

In 2017 allegations of misconduct with women in his community were made publicly by former colleagues. He acknowledged personal failings while denying the more serious characterisations, stepped back, and later resumed teaching. It remains contested and it is part of the record.
