Dan Yaccarino

Dan Yaccarino is an author, illustrator, and animation creator whose picture books often turn curiosity into action. Doug Unplugs on the Farm follows Doug, a young robot accustomed to learning through stored facts, on a visit to his grandbots in the country. When sheep block the road, Doug leaves the car and discovers that direct experience can teach him what data alone cannot. Herding sheep, gathering eggs, milking a cow, and meeting a horse give the day its comic structure and practical lesson. Knopf Books for Young Readers published the forty-page book in 2014 for early elementary readers. Yaccarino both wrote and illustrated it, continuing the character introduced in Doug Unplugged. His broader career includes more than thirty books and television work connected with Oswald and Willa’s Wild Life. In Doug Unplugs on the Farm, his bold visual storytelling supports a simple idea: knowledge becomes more meaningful when observation, movement, and friendship join the facts.
