Danielle Girard
1970
Danielle Girard builds suspense around investigators, reporters and communities where apparently separate events begin to connect. White Out opens her Badlands thriller series in Hagen, North Dakota, while Up Close is the third novel in that sequence. The later book follows detective Kylie Milliard as questions surrounding two local high-school seniors draw her into a wider investigation. Girard’s other fiction includes the Dr. Schwartzman and Rookie Club series, plus the standalone Chasing Darkness. She studied at Cornell University and earned an MFA from Queens University of Charlotte. Girard also created and hosts the Killer Women podcast, where she interviews other crime writers. The Badlands books pair recurring investigators with a distinct regional setting and cases that unfold across more than one viewpoint.
