Stacy Willingham
1991
In A Flicker in the Dark the narrator's father went to prison for killing six girls when she was twelve. Twenty years on, girls start disappearing again.
Willingham writes in the wave of southern-set psychological suspense that followed Gillian Flynn, and the Louisiana humidity does a lot of the atmospheric work. The interest is less in whodunnit than in whether a woman who has spent her adult life expecting to be like her father can trust her own reading of events. All the Dangerous Things followed.
